How To Customize Your Shoes Color

Happy Monday guys! I got the day off of work today and thought it would be fun to blog during the day since I usually can’t do that. How was everyone’s weekend?

Before I get into the how to customized your shoes, I want t share with you all a new decision that I’ve made in my life. I have decided to start a new routine with blogging and learning how to balance life along with my day job. Lately, I have been feeling a little overwhelmed with life and the other day, something happened that made me realized I was not living in the present. Think of it as a small reality check. I was so caught up with social media that I didn’t remember what I did the day before. I am not kidding, for about 10 minutes I could not remember what I did the day before such as where I went to dinner and what I ate etc. Maybe an early stage of Alzheimer? I hope not, because that would be scary. However, something as recent and small as that, I couldn’t remember it! I got so frustrated with myself knowing that I couldn’t remember anything that I did the day before was just odd. It showed me that I was not even present with my loved ones and enjoying their company. So since that event happened, I have been giving myself breaks when the weekend time comes. I now will be sticking to a new schedule to continue working my day job, I will continue to go to the gym about 4-5 times a week after I get off work, because I cannot skip that! It helps me release stress and definitely will help my muscle aches. After the gym, I spend at least 1-2 hours on blogging, multitasking while I am watching a TV show or eating dinner. That way I can try to get into bed at a reasonable time. Once Friday comes, after I blog for the night. My phone is out of my hands for the weekend. I will be out and about with my loved ones and enjoying their company. I just wouldn’t blog and post anything on my social media besides Snapchat and Instastory here and there which takes no effort. Let me tell y’all, I am a lot less stress this way! So cheers to a new year of less stress and blog because it makes me happy and not because I have to blog. So with that being said, I did a little art and craft on my new running shoes and I am here to share it with you all.

Customizing your shoes is not that hard which makes it really fun. Think of it as a coloring book for adults so stay in your lines when painting your shoes ladies and gentlemen. If you guys do decide to customize your shoes, please show me a picture of it after! I would love to see the before and after shot! I was silly and was too excited to paint my shoes so I forgot to take a before shot of the shoes but I will show you a picture of the original shoes right from the website. Hope you enjoyed doing this little art project with me.

Doing art projects is actually very relaxing. It is so calming and the next thing you know, you are super into it and you can feel your body relax! Let me start of by saying, this is my first Ultra Boost and they are sooooo darn comfy! Who knew you can run and walk on cloud 9. At least that’s what they feel like to me. So these Ultra Boost has white mid-soles and I wasn’t able to get the Triple Black version so knowing myself I always get anything white dirty especially my shoes. Customizing them by blacking them out was the best option for my case. Plus it adds a little character knowing you customized your shoes! Are you ready to get crafty?

You can order this kit online on Angelus Direct and guess what guys? This whole kit total up to is only $33! And trust me, there’s plenty of supply for more than 1 pair of shoes.

On their website, you can order everything there such as the paint brushes. If you already have your own brushes then you wouldn’t need to order them.

Step 1: Professional Leather Preparer and Deglazer – with a wet cloth, you will use this to wipe down the excess from your shoes to make sure it is clean, think of it as a prepping to do your makeup if you are a girl. You have to wash your face first to make sure you get rid of any excess makeup/oil. So after wiping your shoes down with this, give it a couple minutes to dry.

Step 2: Flat Black: Acrylic Leather Paint – This is the first coat on your shoes; you don’t have to try to cover everything in details. Remember this is the first coat so just lightly paint the color on your shoes. Wait a couple of minutes and repeat a second coat. Always remember after each coat, give it time to dry.

Step 3: Jet Black – Leather Dye/finishes – This is the final coat of the black paint on your shoes, you can paint this coat twice as well to make sure everything is covered in details.

Step 4: Matte Acrylic Finisher – this is use for a low gloss finish so your shoes aren’t too shiny. With this you would use a sponge or a rag to apply evenly on the shoes. Again, do not forget to let your shoes dry before putting this finisher on. I left my shoes out for a day to make sure it is dry before applying this finisher on. This coat is a water-based finish which when dry gives a non-cracking flexible, water resistant finish to leather.

Step 5: Let your shoes dry so you can rock them!

Congrats you have completed customizing your shoes!

Till next time,

Love Linh

Wooww! You did it amazingly! I really wanted to try this, as I love my pink and white adidas shoes, convert to pink and black to not look too girly. I love black as you do. hehe

Your shoes totally came out just like the picture. Great job! I also know what you mean about social media/blogging burnout. I was just forced to take an Instagram break because I was blocked. It feels kind of nice haha. But it’s important to keep things in perspective and live your life.

Aw I’m so glad that you’re able to give yourself breaks and time to actually live! I’ve been taking breaks on weekends as well and I absolutely love it! This post is so cool! I’ve definitely thought about customizing shoes before but never had the guts. I love how you customized these to fit a sleek all black look!

I love the idea of customizing your own shoes! I use to do this all the time back when I was in middle school just for fun. 🙂 I think it’s a great way to add some character to any pair of shoes and make it uniquely yours!

I love that you’ve decided to take this new direction. It’s something I always tell myself I’m going to do, but very rarely follow through with, so kudos girl! I can’t believe you customized these on your OWN! So, so cool!

I’m sure this project was very enjoyable to do and also allowed you time to think and meditate! I have seen these kicks everywhere and your rave about them makes me want a pair for myself 🙂

What a creative thing to do with a pair of shoes! When I got my first pair of “Converse” in high school (they were knock-offs), I colored in the white parts with black Sharpie haha. I wish I had known then about this paint so I could’ve made them look a lot more professional!

This is such a genius idea! I never thought to paint my shoes to switch things up. I’m not so much the crafty person though, so I might have to step outside my comfort zone… Such an awesome post though!

I am so happy you’ve made the decision to actually have a real life too! I recognize myself in that experience (too much) when all my days consisted of catching up, stressing about what to post next and ending up with anxiety. So it’s good you’re actually limiting your time and have realized there’s a world full of things to do out there 🙂
Regarding the shoes… As I said on Instagram, I want unicorn ones, so I really wanna try this, haha.

I love the idea of trying not to be on social media as much and spend time with your friends and family! Also I had no idea those shoes were diy-nice job!!

  • Christine Kong

Oh wow! When I saw the title of this post I thought you customized the shoes on the Adidas site (kind of like how Nike lets you customize your shoes). I had no idea this was a DIY and I am so impressed! I love the all black look of the Boost kicks and it makes a huge difference. I just started going back to the gym this year too and definitely see the benefits of just taking time for yourself and getting focused and healthy. xoxo, Christine

A little detail really goes a long way. I love that you customized your shoes. I have considered DIY once, but decided not to. lol I love arts and crafts. Like you, I find it really therapeutic. I originally got accepted into a program to become an Architect, but I really am not as talented as others and think that with long hours, I would’ve loved it a lot less.
I have learned to take some pressure off of blogging. I take weekends off and spend time exploring. I have found that really helps me refresh and unwind. I honestly didn’t work out much for 18 months due to a shoulder problem, but once I started again in October, I stepped back and had to learn to rebalance my life as well. It should’ve come easier to me since I used to workout 2-3 hours a day 5-6 days a week with a full time job, but honestly, it was really hard reintroducing it back in because I was waking up much later and sleeping much later. lol With a 9-5 job, I found it easier to manage. I hope you’re finding a great balance – much better than I did when I first started working out again. 🙂

Oh gosh girl I hear you, balance is so key! I’ve been doing my best to get my entire weekend workload done by Friday night so there’s no editing, no writing no sitting in front of my laptop all day missing out on the fun with my family! All I have to do is upload and done! Especially with kids it’s essential for me. Good for you for taking this important change in life.
And the sneaker customization is tenuous! I’m on it! Xo

I can relate with you! I have made it a habit to not touch my phone when I’m with my boyfriend or with my family. I remember it was hard breaking out of that bad habit but now I can actually enjoy some quality time without my phone!

Do they have that paint at Michaels? I may want to customize my adidas too

  • Josie

Oh dear! I feel you! My husband complains that I’m ALWAYS on my phone so it’s a subtle hint that I need to manage my time more! I love the means you are taking to make sure you spend time with your loved ones!

Love your custom work on your Adidas. Really like the all black look!
